FBI Shares New Footage Of Suspect Planting Pipe Bombs Near RNC, DNC HQs

The Federal Bureau of Investigation released nearly two-and-half-minutes of surveillance footage of a suspect accused of planting pipe bombs near the headquarters of the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee in Washington, D.C., on January 5, the night before a riot at the U.S. Capitol.

They were discovered around 1 p.m. the following day, around the same time a group of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol Building during a joint session of Congress. The bombs were rigged to explode with an egg timer and were safely detonated at the scene by robots.

Authorities have been unable to locate the suspect and are hoping the new footage will help them identify and find the individual

The videos are taken from surveillance cameras around the neighborhood and show the suspect walking around carrying a grey backpack. In one of the videos, he stops on the sidewalk in front of a house and carefully puts down the backpack. He appears to be cleaning his glasses as a man walking his dog passes by. The suspect then picks up the bag and walks away.

In another video, the suspect is sitting on a park bench and appears to be going through the backpack. At one point, he looks back at the security camera, but his face is obscured by a mask.

The FBI is a $100,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the person responsible.

"We believe the information released today will help someone recognize the suspect or something about them," FBI assistant director in charge Steven D'Antuono said in a video statement.
