Wegmans has issued a recall for its Semi-Sweet Chocolate Nonpareils due to an undeclared milk allergen. The recall, initiated by Mellace Family Brands California, Inc., affects products distributed in Wegmans stores across eight states, including Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, as well as Washington D.C.
The recall was announced after a temporary breakdown in the supplier's manufacturing process led to the presence of milk in the product without proper labeling. According to the Democrat and Chronicle, the undeclared allergen poses a risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions for those with milk allergies. Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported as of June 30.
Customers who purchased the affected chocolate, packaged in 18.5-ounce plastic tubs with UPC code 77890-49787, are advised to return it to their local Wegmans for a full refund. The affected lot codes include 55021, 55031, 55491, 55501, 56061, and 56071, with best-by dates ranging from December 2025 to April 2026.
For further information, customers can contact Wegmans Food Markets at 1-855-934-3663, available daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET. More details on the recall can be found on the FDA's official website.
