Let The Shoveling and Snow Blowing Begin-Updated Forecast From CBS21

WEATHER WARN DAY:

A major winter storm is sweeping across the area, and our entire region is under a Winter Storm Warning.

The snow will be very heavy as we move through the afternoon. This will be a high impact event with snowfall rates of 2 inches per hour and that means 12"-16" for much of the region. There is a high chance that some sleet mixes in with the snow, especially south of the Turnpike. Expect many roads to become treacherous and even impassable. Avoid any unnecessary travel today. Temperatures during the storm will be unusually cold with much of the day in the teens. Temperatures will warm into the 20s by this evening.

The winter storm will wrap up after sunset with much of the action to our east by midnight.

BITTER COLD:

The impacts from this storm will linger into Monday with extremely cold conditions. Highs will be in the middle 20s with gusty winds that will create blowing and drifting of the snow. Temperatures tumble Monday night into the single digits with below zero wind chills.

The arctic cold will last through the entirety of the week.
