The website for GIANT, a supermarket chain owned by Dutch company Ahold Delhaize, remains offline due to a network security issue. The company took its store sites offline on Monday (October 12) after detecting a potential cyberattack. Ahold Delhaize, which also owns Stop & Shop and Food Lion, is working with cybersecurity experts to investigate and restore online systems.

According to 6abc, the company's stores, including Albert Heijn in the Netherlands and Delhaize in Belgium, remain open, but their websites are still down. Customers can still place delivery orders through Instacart, DoorDash, and Uber Eats, and any unfulfilled web and app orders will be refunded.

Ahold Delhaize stated there is no evidence that customer or employee data has been stolen. The company is taking steps to assess and mitigate the issue, including taking some systems offline to protect them. A spokesperson said, "Our teams are taking steps to assess and mitigate the issue."

The incident comes amid a wave of cyberattacks affecting European supermarket chains. French Finance Minister Roland Lescure reported that about 700 supermarkets in France were affected, though there was no risk to the country's food supplies. The French government's cybersecurity agency noted compromises involving refrigeration system remote control modules made by Danish company Danfoss and U.S.-based Copeland.

As reported by LancasterOnline, this is not the first attack targeting Ahold Delhaize. In November 2024, a data breach impacted over 2.2 million customers of their U.S. stores. The scale of the current cyberattack is still unknown, and Ahold Delhaize has not responded to additional questions.
